MEYER offers engineering consulting on Type IV COPV design, qualification strategy, regulator architecture, and hydrogen pressure-system integration. Most engagements are short, focused, and fixed-fee — for cases where you need an experienced second opinion before committing to a procurement decision or a development programme.
When consulting is the right format
Some questions are better answered by a half-day with an engineer than by a full procurement RFQ. Common consulting engagements:
- Format selection trade study — Type 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 selection for a specific application, with cycle, mass, permeation, cost, and qualification trade-offs documented as a written report you can hand to your team.
- Qualification strategy review — what test campaign do you actually need for your gas, pressure, mission, and customer? Costs €130K–310K typical (detail here); we can often help you remove tests that aren’t needed for your specific case.
- Mass-budget audit — review your current cylinder + regulator + plumbing assembly and identify where mass can be removed without compromising qualification.
- Regulator architecture review — single- vs two-stage trade-off, hydrogen-embrittlement material selection, vibration qualification path. Background here.
- Hydrogen system architecture — full pressure-system review for a fuel-cell UAV, CubeSat propulsion module, or hydrogen-vehicle system. Cylinder + regulator + valve + interconnect mass budget.
- Vendor due-diligence — review of competing vendor proposals, with a written engineer’s opinion on which best meets your spec.
- Qualification document review — check that a vendor’s qualification dossier actually supports the claims on the datasheet.
Engagement formats
Engagements are custom-scoped — formats range from a focused half-day video session to a multi-day written design audit, or ongoing programme support on retainer (typical 5–20 hours per month). Send a one-paragraph problem statement; we respond within two working days with a recommended format, cost, and timeline.
What MEYER brings
- 11+ years of Type IV PET-lined COPV manufacturing experience
- HDRX regulator family — single- and two-stage, hydrogen-compatible, 700 bar inlet capable
- Direct participation in EN 17339 (CEN/TC 23 / WG 16) as a contributing COPV expert
- Production data on cycle life, permeation, and burst behaviour from real qualification campaigns
- EU-origin, ITAR-free, no re-export licence overhead for European clients
What we don’t do
- Generic management consulting or strategy work
- Vendor-selection consulting where MEYER would be one of the vendors evaluated (conflict of interest — we’ll refer you to an independent consultant)
- Fluid-dynamics CFD or thermo-mechanical FEA on systems we wouldn’t normally manufacture
- Marketing or commercial advice
How to engage
Send us a one-paragraph problem statement under standard NDA. We respond within two working days with a recommended engagement format, cost, and timeline. If the question turns out to be smaller than a paid engagement, we’ll often answer it directly without charging.
