The MEYER HDRX-R is a two-stage, SS 316 helium pressure regulator for lighter-than-air and helium-handling systems: supply 350 / 400 / 450 / 500 bar, outlet 0.2–10 barg set to order and held to ±0.1 bar. The SS 316 wetted path is inert in helium service, the unit is a compact Ø 65 mm · ~245 g target, and every regulator ships set and verified to its ordered outlet pressure and flow. It is the same fitted-at-order architecture as our hydrogen fuel-cell regulators — configured for helium.
Whether you are topping up an airship envelope or filling a weather balloon from a 300 bar cylinder, the supply pressure falls continuously as the cylinder empties. A single-stage regulator passes part of that change through to its outlet; a two-stage regulator holds delivery pressure essentially constant from a full cylinder to an empty one — no operator readjustment. For unattended and autonomous systems, that is not a convenience, it is the requirement.
Envelope and ballonet top-up, on the ground or onboard — paired with MEYER helium COPVs (6.8 L at 2.3–2.8 kg, no measurable permeation, verified by helium leak detection). Hydrogen-lift or fuel-cell-powered airship programmes get both gas systems from one supplier: lift-gas handling and propulsion regulation.
Field top-up from 300–350 bar composite cylinders instead of hauling steel bottles to the mast — a weight and logistics decision as much as a pressure one.
Unattended filling from high-pressure cylinders is precisely the service where two-stage regulation earns its keep: stable fill pressure across the whole cylinder, launch after launch, with no one on site.
HAPS and research programmes where every gram of ground and flight equipment is budgeted — precise low-pressure helium delivery from a 245 g unit.
Helium tracer-gas delivery at a held setpoint (±0.1 bar standard) for leak detection and instrumentation service.
The helium configuration is encoded in the part number: outlet setpoint (O), flow (F) and application code (HE-AIR airship · HE-AERO aerostat · HE-BAL balloon launch · HE-LAB lab).
MEYER builds the helium storage too: HDRX-068-HE (6.8 L · 350 bar · 2.8 kg), HDRX-068-HE-UL (2.3 kg) and HDRX-400-HE (40 L) — sealed-liner Type IV composite cylinders with no measurable permeation, verified by helium leak detection. Pre-orders are open on the helium family. See the helium catalog and the helium engineering article.
State your application, outlet setpoint and flow — the configurator builds the part number for your configured quotation. No payment; MEYER reviews the application and replies within 2 business days with price and estimated lead time. Qualification units planned 2027 Q2.
Is the regulator compatible with helium? Yes — the SS 316 body and wetted path are inert in helium service, and each unit is set and verified to its ordered outlet pressure and flow before shipment.
Can I fill balloons directly from a 300 bar cylinder? That is the intended service: two-stage reduction from cylinder pressure to your fill pressure (0.2–10 barg), held to ±0.1 bar as the cylinder empties.
Do you supply the cylinder as well? Yes — MEYER helium COPVs from 6.8 L / 2.3 kg to 40 L, with no measurable permeation, verified by helium leak detection.
